Project StatusThis is where we'll announce the most recent developments in the project. Check here to find out what progress has been made. The latest news appears on top of the list. December 9, 2002 Book donations have begun coming in in good numbers and it appears that the goal of the project will be easily exceeded. Additional institutions will be contacted to accept the extra books. Dropboxes are now in place at Xavier High School in Manhattan and at St. Peter's Prep in downtown Jersey City. December 7, 2002 A group of nine volunteers today distributed approximately six-hundred doorhangers to residences in Kearny informing people about the project and asking for donations of books. December 3, 2002 St. Peter's Prep in Jersey City has agreed to participate in the project and become a dropbox location. December 2, 2002 We have identified and ordered software that will allow us to catalogue all the books for the Day Care Centers using information from the Library of Congress. Each recipient site will receive a data base listing all the books as they would be listed in a library. November 30, 2002 Dropboxes are now in place at St. Stephen's Church in Kearny and an article has been published in the parish bulletin asking the parishioners to donate books. November 29, 2002 Xavier High School has agreed to participate in the project and provide a dropbox location in lower Manhatten in New York City. The Rotary Club of Jersey City has also committed to helping. Production of the dropboxes is now complete and seven have been put in place at Liberty Savings Federal Credit Union and at six branches of the Provident Bank. We have received promises of large quantities of books from two different sources. November 24, 2002 St. Stephen's Parish has agreed to participate in the project. Parishioners will be asked to donate books, and drop boxes will be available in the church vestibule in Kearny. November 22, 2002 Liberty Savings Federal Credit Union has agreed to participate in the project. The office in Jersey City will be a dropbox location. Also, a number of Provident Bank branches have agreed to be dropbox locations. November 15, 2002 The "Read Me Again, Please!" project proposal has been approved by the Hudson Liberty District Advancement Committee. Participating organizations and businesses are now being contacted and will be listed on the website as they sign aboard. Please watch the website for information as to where you can drop off your donations. |
