| Max Silber Buckle Max Silber, an Executive Board member of Daniel Webster Council
from Nashua, New Hampshire, in 1949 began making bronze belt buckles as Friendship gifts
for the boys from his council to take to National Jamborees and other events. Over
the years, Max's buckles have become treasured mementos of Scouting events for those lucky
enough to get them.
In 1965, Max was selected to serve as Scoutmaster of the
Service Troop from Daniel Webster Council at the New York World's Fair. Naturally,
Max created a special buckle for the occasion. 400 of these were made and naturally
they are extremely rare. |

| Postal Stamp This postal stamp featuring the Boy Scout Service Corps, New York World's
Fair 1964-5 was issued in 1991 by the Turks and Caicos Islands in honor of the 17th World
Scout Jamboree which was held in that year in Korea. I recieved the
following as an e-mail from Dr. William R. Hanson, designer of the stamp
explaining its origin:
I was the designer of the Turks & Caicos stamp
showing the Scout and the Unisphere. This stamp was past of a multi-nation
stamp series I designed in conjunction with the Jamboree in Korea, and
which featured the history of Scouting and Scouting events around the
world.
I remembered the Scouts at the Fair in 64-5 and decided
to include them in one of sets. I made up a written proposal with sketches
and Turks and Caicos just happened to be the country that wound up with
this design, which they accepted enthusiastically. One of my first visits
to the Fair was a brutally hot and humid day in 1964; I remember the
Scouts I saw that day dressed as shown on the stamp, no red jackets. As I
recall from many enjoyable visits to the Fair, the red jackets were worn
more in the evenings and on cool or rainy days, I don't recall seeing
Scouts in them ever on hot days, unless they were serving as color guards
and the like inside air conditioned buildings. My memory may not be 100%
accurate, as I wasn't particularly paying attention to the Scouts, but
that is my recollection. |

Handmade
"International"
NeckerchiefAccording to
the person I acquired this from, his brother was on the NYWF Service Corps
with a visiting foreign scout. This neckerchief was made to enable
him to wear the badge of his native scout association. The scout
badge on the neckerchief is felt and is attached with snaps so that it can
be removed.
