I've been a member of the Boy Scouts of America since I was 11 years old. At that time I joined Troop 201 in Rumson, New Jersey in the Monmouth Council. I spent several years with that Troop achieving the rank of Life Scout and serving as an Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, and Instructor. My Troop attended Dan Beard Camp at Forrestburg Scout Reservation each summer.

When I was 16 I moved to Jersey City and had to find a new Troop. We were scheduled to move to Kearny, NJ shortly, so I tried out Troop 302 there. It wasn't a bad Troop, but it just wasn't for me. I ended up joining Troop 432 in Jersey City where I stayed until completing my Eagle Scout rank in 1988 (1 day before my 18th birthday!).

The Order of the Arrow Has been a very important part of Scouting to me. I was first inducted into the Order in 1984 in Na-Tsi-Hi Lodge #71. Once a member, I joined the Membership Committee. I became a Brotherhood Member in June of 1985. Once I moved, I became a member of Elauwit Lodge #37. I served in a number of positions - Elections Chairman (twice), Holiday Banquet Chairman, Ceremonies Chairman (x3), and Vice-chief (x3). I was awarded Elauwit's Arrowman of the Year Award in 1989. On January 12, 1991 I ceased to be a youth member of the Brotherhood and became one of them - an Advisor. I served as Holiday Banquet Advisor that year. I have also served as Assistant Ceremonies Advisor.

In 1994, Elauwit Lodge merged with Pamrapaugh Lodge #14 to form Mantowagan Lodge #14.It was tough to say "Goodbye" to Elauwit, but Mantowagan has been great. In June of 1994 I was tapped out for the Vigil Honor, one of the first in Mantowagan Lodge. My Vigil Name is Meechgalhukquot which is interpreted as Redheaded One. I am currently serving as NE-2B Section Conclave Committee Advisor for the Lodge.

It's quite possible that my favorite activity in Scouting was summer camp. I went to Forrestburg with my Troop in 1982, 1983, and 1984. I also went to Rock Hill Scout Reservation as a member of the Provisional Troop in 1982 and 1983. The second year I spent 4 weeks there! In 1994, I got to be a C.I.T. at RHSR. I spent 5 summers working at Rock Hill, and loved them all. I did a bunch of different jobs while working there over the years including Camp Clerk, Commissioner's Aide, and Camp Health Officer. It's a special place to me, and always will be. I made a lot of friends there, and did a lot of growing up.

I started my time as an Explorer when I was 14 and visited a Police Explorer Post that a friend of mine was in. Once I had moved, I joined a Medical Explorer Post at Christ Hospital in Jersey City. From there, I moved on to start an Emergency Service Explorer Post with the American Red Cross. I bacame President of that Post, and was also elected Explorer Presidents' Association Chairman for the Hudson-Hamilton Council. Currently, one of my registrations in the BSA is as an Associate Adviser for High Adventure Explorer Post 348 in Jersey City. I am a National Exploring Instructor and serve as Council Exploring Training Team Chairman and as a member of the Council Exploring Committee.
