Hudson County, New Jersey
Hudson County epitomizes all the qualities that make New Jersey unique. In one of the smallest and most densely populated states in the nation, Hudson County is the smallest and most densely populated county. In a total area of 46 sqare miles, the county is home to a degree of diversity not known in other places. According to the 1990 U.S. Census, Hudson County had a total population of 553,099 giving us 12,024 people per square mile. Hudson County is home to such famous historical sights as the Alexander Hamilton-Aaron Burr duel site, Ellis Isalnd and the Statue of Liberty (just ask where the electricity and water come from), and the site of the Battle of Paulus Hook. Currently, Hudson County is also home to highlights like Liberty Science Center, Exchange Place - the tallest building in New Jersey, the Afro-American Historical Society Museum, and the oldest underground railroad in the world (the PATH).
